MYOBLOC® (Botulinum Toxin Type B) gains expanded access in First Coast Service Options’ Florida and Connecticut Medicare programs

MALVERN , PA – June 15, 2006 – Solstice Neurosciences Inc., has received expanded access coverage for Myobloc® (Botulinum Toxin Type B) Injectable Solution for First Coast Service Options’ (FCSO) Medicare patients in Florida and Connecticut. The expanded access coverage went into effect May 8, 2006.

Solstice submitted an official Reconsideration Request to FCSO to expand the reimbursement beyond the treatment of Cervical Dystonia (spasmodic torticollis). In recognition of patient needs and physician demands, FCSO responded favorably to the request to allow reimbursement for a broader range of therapeutic codes. “The use of MYOBLOC may be considered a medically necessary off-label indication for spasticity caused by stroke or brain injury", as noted on the CMS website. (For more information visit: http://www.cms.hhs.gov/mcd/viewlcd.asp?lcd_id=5840&lcd_version=14&show=all)
The revised policy offers a broader range of therapeutic options to optimize care for patients with significant disabilities.

About Cervical Dystonia:

Cervical Dystonia (CD), also known as spasmodic torticollis, is a condition that primarily affects the muscles of the head and neck (the cervical area of the spine). Cervical dystonia is the most common dystonia requiring referral to movement disorder clinics. The neck muscles contract involuntarily causing abnormal movements and positions of both the head and neck. Muscle spasms in the neck often cause great pain, contributing significantly to the disability caused by the disorder. Treatment is aimed at relaxing contracted muscles and reducing pain.
