MALVERN, PA – September 18, 2006-
Solstice Neurosciences, Inc. announced that it has become a Patron Sponsor of a pain exhibit in the International Museum of Surgical Science (IMSS) in Chicago. This exhibit The Universal Condition: Enduring and Alleviating Pain” opens to the public on October 17, 2006, and will be on display until 2008.

This world-class medical museum is visited by nearly 20,000 visitors annually, 70 percent of whom are professionals, educators, and students involved in the health care industry. In addition to historical artifacts from the museum’s extensive collection, archival manuscripts and artwork highlighting many pioneers and their discoveries in pain management and anesthesia are on display.

“Solstice Neurosciences is delighted that this educational exhibit is opening, and is pleased to help educate the public as to how a toxin might offer pain relief,” said Shawn O’Brien, Chief Executive Officer at Solstice. With October being ‘Movement Disorder Month,’ this timely opening enables Solstice to generate awareness for the condition of Cervical Dystonia (CD) and available treatment options.”

As part of its support to the IMSS to promote awareness and knowledge about CD and the pain associated with it, Solstice’s educational display panel focuses specifically on botulinum toxin, its mechanism of action and its use for treating this painful muscle disorder.

About Cervical Dystonia:

Cervical Dystonia (CD), also known as spasmodic torticollis, is a condition that primarily affects the muscles of the head and neck (the cervical area of the spine). Cervical dystonia is the most common dystonia requiring referral to movement disorder clinics. While the exact cause of CD is unknown, scientists believe the problem originates in the basal ganglia area of the brain that is instrumental in movement. Dystonia has an estimated prevalence of over 300,000 cases in North America. In general, there are three main approaches to the treatment of CD: oral medications, surgery, and toxin therapy.
